Pupils aged 10 to 14 take part in the "Schüler experimentieren" competition for young people

The nationwide "Jugend forscht - Schüler experimentieren" competition is held simultaneously throughout Germany under the motto "Make ideas big". The competition aims to encourage children, teenagers and young adults to immerse themselves in the exciting world of research and science. The topics covered by the young researchers' entries in the competition are wide-ranging, from organic solar cells to "incredible" bicycle tires, gene doping in competitive sports and 3D cell cultures.

Children and young people from elementary schools, regular schools and high schools in Ruhla, Neudietendorf and Ilmenau are taking part in the West Thuringia regional competition. After preparing individually or in teams for weeks or even months, the time has finally come on February 8, when they will present their 50 projects from the research areas of the working world, biology, chemistry, earth and space sciences, mathematics/computer science, physics and technology to a jury of experts at the Technical University of Ilmenau. The winners of the seven regional competitions in Thuringia qualify for the state competition on March 31 in Jena. The grand national final will then be held in Bremen from May 18 to 21.
