Today (July 11), the German University Association awarded the Technische Universität Ilmenau the DHV seal of approval for fair and transparent appointment negotiations. This makes TU Ilmenau the first and so far only university in Thuringia to receive the award. In awarding the seal of approval, which is valid for five years, the focus is on fairness, transparency and reliability in appointment or retention negotiations of scientists and on their appreciation during the process. The German Association of University Professors and Lecturers is the nationwide professional representative body for scientists with over 33,000 members.

In its justification for awarding the DHV seal of approval for fair and transparent appointment negotiations, the German University Association emphasized that the TU Ilmenau proves to be a university of "short distances". Administration, deaneries and university management worked closely and trustfully with each other. The instruction of members of the appointment committee through video tutorials contributes significantly to the professionalization of the appointment process. It was appreciated that negotiations with the call holders were treated as a "matter for the boss" by the chancellor and the president, regardless of the grade. The resulting very good and constructive negotiating atmosphere during talks is particularly appreciated by all involved. It is gratifying that half of all junior professorships are linked to a binding tenure-track commitment, which, in the event of a positive evaluation, guarantees a permanent employment contract in the higher W2/W3 grades. Junior professors are also granted performance bonuses.

According to the DHV, Ilmenau's equipment and appointment offers are regularly good. The ability to work is established quickly. Dual-career concerns are negotiable on an individual basis, and a well-functioning family office provides support in arranging childcare places. Last but not least, a welcome event with the president and the administrative management makes it easier for new professors to start working in Ilmenau. Tenure-track professors also benefit from individual coaching offers.

The president of the DHV, Professor Lambert T. Koch, is convinced that universities sharpen their profile in teaching and research through appointments: "Within the framework of the quality seal procedure, strengths and weaknesses in the appointment culture are analyzed. This gives universities clues as to how they can further optimize their appointment management." The President of TU Ilmenau, Professor Dr. Kai-Uwe Sattler is very pleased that TU Ilmenau has been awarded for fair and transparent appointment negotiations: "The feedback associated with the award process shows that we are on the right track in terms of personnel recruitment. We will carefully examine and take up the suggestion to further increase procedural transparency by means of an appointment process monitor and an appointment portal, or the recommendation to further expand and more proactively provide continuing education and training for all newly appointed professors."
