The Technische Universität Ilmenau coordinates the European university alliance SUNRISE - "Smaller (strategic) Universities Network for Regional Innovative and Sustainable Evolution", a strategic alliance of nine partner universities for innovative and sustainable regional development.
They are supported by 48 associated partners from business, science, politics and administration.
The alliance comprises a total of 62,500 students, 49 departments, 4808 researchers and over 500 Erasmus+/Horizon projects. Together they develop
The partners in the SUNRISE alliance are similar in size and location away from conurbations, but are united by their focus on STEM subjects - mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology - and by a common goal: to shape the future of study, teaching, research and innovation for the benefit of society through intensive exchange and strategic cooperation.
