Departments

TU Ilmenau is the only technical university in Thuringia and has a long tradition of excellence in the education of engineers. This is also reflected in the university's five departments: they offer students a forward-looking program in engineering, mathematics and natural sciences, business and media.

Interdisciplinary teaching and research is a top priority: In six inter-departmental institutes and interdisciplinary research groups at TU Ilmenau, scientists pool their expertise, exchange research results and work across disciplinary boundaries on future topics such as artificial intelligence, sustainable energy supply and mobility.
