Emma Conference in Leeuwarden 2024

This year, our department was once again represented at the emma (European Media Management Association) conference, which took place in Leeuwarden in the Netherlands from June 5th to 8th, 2024.

We actively contributed to the conference with several presentations and lectures:

  1. Miriam Bernhard presented her latest findings on "Organisational unlearning in the AI revolution: comparative case studies in journalistic media organisations".
  2. Miriam Bernhard also gave a presentation on "Fear Factor: A Scoping Literature Review of the Role of Fear in News Management During Conflict" together with François Nel (University of Central Lancashire), Karolina Brylska, Lenka Waschková Císařová (Masaryk University), and Dagmara Sidyk-Furman (University of Warsaw).
  3. Prof. Dr. Andreas Will was part of the special session on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) actions of European media organizations in response to the war in Ukraine, together with Anna Jupowicz-Ginalska, Martyna Dudziak-Kisio, Emilia Zakrzewska, Ph.D., MBA (University of Warsaw), Päivi Maijanen (LUT University), Anca Anton (University of Bucharest) and Antonia Matei (Universitatea din București). The focus was on media campaigns in Poland, Romania, Germany and Finland. The session was initiated during the "Knowledge-Share Communities" project at the University of Warsaw.
  4. Jonas Weber and Prof. Dr. Andreas Will presented their latest study on "The Market for Journalism Platforms in Germany: Innovating the Distribution of Journalism?" which they conducted together with Christopher Buschow (TU Hamburg/ Hamburg Media School).
  5. Our external PhD-candidate Jasmin Ebert presented her study on "Investigation of Willingness to Pay for Mobile Contracts, Combining the Theory of Planned Behavior and Conjoint Analysis", together with Prof. Dr. Peter Winzer.
  6. Prof. Dr. Oliver Budzinski was also present and, together with Sophia Gaenssle and Nadine Lindstädt-Dreusicke, presented the results of their research project on "Media vs. Tech giants - on the co-evolution of strategy and market structure".

We would like to thank the organizers from NHL Stenden and Erasmus University Rotterdamfor the interesting and inspiring conference. We had many enriching discussions, received valuable feedback, and are already looking forward to the next conference in Rome!
