Communication and Media as Inherent Components of Warfare

The volume "Krieg der Narrative", edited by Martin Löffelholz, Kathrin Schleicher and Christian F. Trippe, has just been published by De Gruyter.

Russia's attack on Ukraine in violation of international law has shaken the European security architecture - with serious consequences for Ukraine and Western politics, but also for journalistic reporting and public opinion. Communication, media, and journalism as inherent components of warfare and the accompanying political conflicts are therefore examined in depth and from different perspectives in this book. It deals with strategic state information, disinformation, and propaganda efforts, as well as the challenges faced by media in times of war. In addition to the restrictions imposed on journalists by state actors, the volume shows how social media, drones, virtual reality, and artificial intelligence are changing war reporting - and what consequences this has for political communication. In addition to Martin Löffelholz and Kathrin Schleicher, Johanna Radechovsky, Aynur Sarısakaloğlu and Yi Xu (now at the University of Jena) from the Ilmenau Institute for Media and Communication Studies contributed to the book.
