New publication on optimizing state crisis communication

Kathrin Schleicher, Johanna Radechovsky and Martin Löffelholz from the Media Studies Group at Ilmenau University of Technology present challenges and opportunities for improving crisis communication by public authorities in the recently published volume "Professional Crisis Communication".

The article on "Crisis communication by state institutions" is based on empirical analyses of how federal, state and local authorities have organized and coordinated their risk and crisis communication based on their experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. The studies were conducted as part of a project led by Martin Löffelholz, which has been part of the MIRKKOMM research consortium funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research since the end of 2021 (→ mirkkomm.de/).

The MIRKKOMM research consortium met in Hamburg in mid-July 2024 at mecom Medien-Communikations-Gesellschaft mbH, one of the project partners that operates the MoWas modular warning system for the federal government, to discuss the links between the findings of the sub-projects and, building on this, to improve the training of public authority employees.
