Research visit by Dr Mario Kurniawan to Universitas Prasetiya Mulya/Indonesia

The cooperation between TU Ilmenau and UPM, which has existed since May 2022, was further strengthened with this visit.

From 7 to 14 June 2023, Dr Mario Kurniawan, a research assistant in the Department of Electrochemistry and Electroplating at TU Ilmenau, was a guest at Universitas Prasetiya Mulya (UPM) in Indonesia. The UPM was founded in 1982 and is a leading university for business and entrepreneurship in Indonesia. In 2016, it expanded its field of study to include science and technology, particularly in the area of renewable energy. Since May 2022, there has been cooperation between TU Ilmenau and UPM based on a joint Memorandum of Understanding.

Dr Kurniawan gave a lecture at UPM on the possibilities and challenges of electrochemical applications for the conversion and storage of renewable energies to students of the renewable energy course. The well-attended lecture and the lively discussion afterwards show that the topic is increasingly gaining importance and attracting great interest in Indonesia. In addition, Dr. Kurniawan, together with various researchers/lecturers, discussed common research interests and funding opportunities to further strengthen scientific cooperation between the two universities. During the meetings, it was decided to create new scientific synergies for closer collaboration and joint research proposals, in academic teaching and in joint research on batteries and electrocatalysts for hydrogen production. In addition, Dr. Kurniawan reported on his experiences as a student in Germany and informed interested students about the Master's programmes at TU Ilmenau. Dr. Kurniawan expresses his sincere thanks to the Faculty EI for the financial support of this trip.
