Surface and coordinate measurements with nanomeasuring machines. - In: International journal of nanomanufacturing, ISSN 1746-9392, Bd. 8 (2012), 5/6, S. 467-483

The nanomeasuring machine (NMM-1) was designed for surface and coordinate measurements within a measurement volume of 25 mm × 25 mm × 5 mm. The machine is equipped with three homodyne plane-mirror miniature interferometers for the measurement of the displacement of a movable corner mirror. The object being measured is placed on the corner mirror, which is positioned by a three-axis drive system. Various measurement tasks are possible depending on the probe system installed. Most of the sensors utilised are one-dimensional tactile or optical surface sensors or probes. In recent years, measurements of three-dimensional features and sidewalls are becoming more important. For these more complex measurements, probe systems with two or three directions of sensitivity are necessary and were therefore integrated into the NMM-1. The article gives an overview of the operation and properties of the NMM-1, its use for surface and coordinate measurements, of integrated probe systems and of two probing systems developed.

Fixed point thermometers for thin pipelines :
Fixpunktthermometer für kleine Rohrquerschnitte. - In: Technisches Messen, ISSN 2196-7113, Bd. 79 (2012), 12, S. 559-562

Noncontact electromagnetic flow measurement in electrolytes. - In: 23rd International Congress of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, 2012, FM11-005, insges. 2 S.

Lorentz force velocimetry (LFV) is a noncontact electromagnetic flow measurement technique that is currently successfully applied for velocity measurements in liquid metals both in laboratory experiments and industry. However, up to now the application of LFV was restricted to conducting fluids with electrical conductivities of the order of 106 S/m such as are encountered in liquid metals. Here we demonstrate that LFV can be successfully extended to poorly conducting fluids (electrolytes) by using high-resolution force measurements.

High speed temperature sensors in emission systems of combustion engines. - In: Proceedings of XX IMEKO World Congress, ISBN 978-89-950000-5-2, (2012), insges. 5 S.

Temperature sensors used in emission systems of combustion engines must register enormous temperature differences within the shortest periods of time. This serves to protect the engine parts with respect to their temperature stability and to govern the energy efficient functioning of the engine. Numerical calculations according to the Finite Elements Method are used to estimate static-thermal measurement errors and dynamic characteristics primarily concerning medium specificity and construction of the temperature sensors. Prediction models are used to correct the dynamic behaviour and to predict the medium temperature faster accurately.

Nanopositioning system with combined force measurement based on electromagnetic force compensated balances. - In: Proceedings of XX IMEKO World Congress, ISBN 978-89-950000-5-2, (2012), insges. 5 S.

This paper descusses a novel nanopositioning system which is based on an electromagnetic force compensated (EMC) balance. In addition to the positioning the actuating force can also be measured. This enables the measurement of force displacement curves of springs tith a wide variety of spring constants. The measurement renge of the spring constants is up to 10(10) N/m with a maximum resolution of about 0.01 N/m. Compared to other principes for measuring the spring constant the introduced method is more sophisticated. Both force as well as the displacement can be measured traceable and simultaneously.

Traceable determination of mechnical parameters of binocular shaped force transducers according to EN ISO 376. - In: Proceedings of XX IMEKO World Congress, ISBN 978-89-950000-5-2, (2012), insges. 6 S.

This paper discusses the traceable determination of mechanical parameters of monolithic binocular shaped dual beam spring elements that are applied as force transducers and load cells in the mass and force metrology. Thereby it mainly deals with the measurement fo the specific values creeping, reversibility, reproducibility, zero error and interpolation error which are defined in applicable regulations such as the EN ISO 376 standard or the OIML recommendation R 60. Our determination of those parameters is based on an interferometric deformation measurement of a loaded binocular shaped dual beam spring element which is made of the common aluminium alloy AW 2024. Generally there is no restriction on the spring element material. The parameters mentioned above are derived from the measured interferometer signal according to the END ISO 376 standard and are thus traceable to the wavelength of light. The used measurement setup is introduced, measurements of the mentioned parameters are presented and their uncertainty is depicted. It is proved that the setup is suitable to classify dual beam spring elements according to the highest accuracy Class 00 of ENd ISO 376.
