The bundling of different products at a reduced price is a common strategy in traditional markets to sell products to consumers. In comparison with traditional markets, internet markets exhibit some economic peculiarities, such as the theory of multisided markets or the economics of personalized data. Considering the economic peculiarities, the objective of this thesis is to find out in which forms bundling in internet markets occurs and which competitive effects as well as impacts on the overall welfare it entails. Finally, regulatory implications for the handling with bundling in internet markets are determined. For this purpose, five different case types are developed and their specific welfare effects analyzed. Subsequently, two actual cases of bundling, the Google case and the AT&T and Time Warner case, are practically examined. The result of the thesis shows both positive and negative welfare-changing effects within different areas. As the consumers of the content can often generate an advantage from bundling, competitors are often disadvantaged by the shift of market power in favor of the bundler. The negative welfare effects are particularly strong with already existing dominant positions on the part of the bundler. Therefore, it is necessary to weighing the advantages against the disadvantages in individual cases.

Die wachsende Popularität von Fahrsimulationen in Forschung und Praxis rückt auch die Interaktion von Mensch und Maschine in den Fokus (Rizzo, Sheffield, Stierman & Dawson, 2003). Zentral ist dabei die Untersuchung potentieller negativer Nebeneffekte wie Simulator Sickness (Biernacki & Dziuda, 2014; Brucks & Watters, 2009), was Symptome von Übelkeit, Okulomotorik oder Desorientierung umfasst. Die Untersuchung psychologischer Korrelate von Simulator Sickness ist unterrepräsentiert (Milleville-Pennel & Charron, 2015). Die vorliegende Dissertation beschäftigt sich aus diesem Grund mit der Forschungsfrage, welche Human Factors mit dem Erleben von Simulator Sickness in Fahrsimulations-umgebungen verbunden sind. Um dieser Fragestellung nachzugehen, wurden drei Untersuchungen durchgeführt. Die erste Untersuchung widmete sich der Beziehung zwischen aktuell erlebten physischen sowie psychischen Beschwerden und der Ausprägung von Simulator Sickness nach einer Fahrsimulationsexposition. Statistische Analysen ergaben, dass physische Beschwerden kein signifikanter Prädiktor für das Erleben von Simulator Sickness waren, psychische Beschwerden hingegen schon. Die zweite Untersuchung widmete sich der Beziehung zwischen visueller Aufmerksamkeitsleistung und dem Erleben von Simulator Sickness. Es konnten keine signifikante Beziehung zwischen visueller Aufmerksamkeitsleistung und den Skalen des Simulator Sickness Questionnaires aufgezeigt werden. Die dritte Untersuchung widmete sich zwei Fragestellungen: Zum einen sollte herausgefunden werden, welche Fahrertypen anhand verschiedener Human Factors ermittelt werden können, zum anderen sollte untersucht werden, ob sich die Fahrertypen (im Sinne von Merkmalskombinationen verschiedener Human Factors) in ihrem Erleben von Simulator Sickness unterscheiden. Es konnten vier Fahrertypen identifiziert werden (ängstlich, leichtsinnig, vorsichtig und aggressiv), welche sich hinsichtlich des Erlebens von Simulator Sickness nicht signifikant unterschieden. Die durchgeführten Untersuchungen sind limitiert durch die Nutzung jeweils einer Simulationsaufgabe. Künftige Forschung sollte Schwierigkeitsgrade der Aufgaben variieren und experimentelle Designs nutzen. Die Untersuchungen unterstreichen allerdings die Relevanz der Erforschung der Beziehung von Human Factors und Simulator Sickness, welche noch zahlreiche Forschungslücken aufweist.

Exploitative abuse and abuse of economic dependence: what can we learn from an industrial organization approach?

This article conducts a detailed analysis of the concept of economic dependence and exploitative abuse based on how their treatment in competition law and economics and their enforcement in European case law have evolved. Although the theoretical roots of these concepts lie in economic theory, these issues have been ignored or considered only scantily in the context of competition law enforcement. An effects-based approach should take these problems into account and could provide insights into how to portray the impacts of these abuses. We draw on two examples - from the agri-food industries and the digital economy - of relevant economic dependence issues. This paper highlights the existence of a paradox: although industrial organization models provide relevant tools to characterize these abuses, assess their effects, and devise remedies, it seems that they are seldom used by competition law enforcers.
