Munich Summer Institute: International flagship event with contribution from Ilmenau

Benedikt Schmal from the Economic Theory Group of the Ilmenau University of Technology presented his new paper on "The X Factor: Open Access, New Journals, and Incumbent Competitors" in a poster session. In his work, Benedikt combines research in bibliometrics and industrial organization to better understand the market entry barriers for new journals in the academic publishing market.

The meticulously organized conference, a joint project of researchers from TU Munich, LMU Munich School of Management, ETH Zurich, Cornell University, HEC Lausanne, and the Max Planck Institute for Innovation & Competition, gathered researchers from around the globe. In addition to the organizing institutions, researchers came from various places, among others, MIT, Duke, Johns Hopkins, U Minnesota, and the University of Zurich.
