For Lab-on-chip systems miniaturized micropumps without moving parts are intriguing components. One possibility for such a device is the exploitation of the Lorentzforce, generated by the superposition of an electric and a magnetic field. In that respect a prototype of a magneto hydrodynamic-micropump was designed in an interdisciplinary attempt between researchers from fluid mechanics and microsystem technology.
