The presented study attends the fabrication of thick hard magnetic coatings by thermal spraying of NdFeB-Powder with an inductively coupled thermal RF-plasma (ICP). In contrast to i.e. the well known DC-plasma spray technology the ICP is an electrode less, large volume thermal plasma with temperatures up to 10.000K. In materials industry it is up to now only used for the synthesis and modification of powders. But this technology also offers new possibilities in the manufacturing of coatings because of the changed spraying contitions: Larger grain sizes of the powder can be used and the lower kinetic energy of the molten particles at the moment of impact on the subtrate surface leads to changed conditions of particles deformation and cooling down. Using the ICP thick NdFeB-coatings were sprayed at low pressure atmosphere. As the result of a recent study the reproducible manufacturing of such coatings is possible with a thickness up to 400 æm. The values of Hmax are in the range of 230 kA/m and Bmax between 330 mT and 550 mT (initial powder: Hmax = 750 kA/m, Bmax = 700 mT).
