IntelliGn - Intelligent orchestration and management system for private 5G networks

The Integrated Communication Systems group at TU Ilmenau is working on the new project IntelliGn. Goal is to develop an intelligent orchestration and management system for private 5G networks that allows users, operators and application developers of these networks to install, configure, analyze and optimize them.

The system allows flexible configuration of the campus network as a whole, which includes the radio systems, the radio access system and the core network. In addition to pure configuration, various system analyses are supported, which can be used for troubleshooting and as a basis for optimizing network parameters.

The orchestration and management system also forms the basis for a complete system for private 5G networks, also referred to here as a 5G ecosystem, into which both open source-based and commercial components can be integrated. This 5G ecosystem, which is to be marketed as a whole, supports end-to-end applications and can serve both as a production system and as a basis for the development and testing of end applications or special end devices. It can also be used to validate special network-internal functions, which are referred to as rApps or xApps in the OpenRAN context.

IntelliGn is a joint project of the ICS group and the spin-off Aivader GmbH. Within the project, TU Ilmenau is concentrating on providing the corresponding OpenRAN-based 5G ecosystem and integrating the corresponding network elements into it.

The project is funded by the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Wissenschaft und Digitale Gesellschaft of the Free State of Thuringia, co-financed by European Union funds (EFRE) and coordinated by the Thüringer Aufbaubank.
