Auch bei der Metallisierung von Kunststoffen besteht die Notwendigkeit zur Erhöhung der Abriebbeständigkeit der aufgebrachten Metallschichten. Eine Möglichkeit hierzu ist der Einsatz von Dispersoiden, wobei bei dünnen Schichten die üblichen Partikelgrößen von einigen Mikrometern ausscheiden. Bei Verwendung eines alkalischen Elektrolyten mit 30 g/l Nickelsulfat, 25 g/l Natriumhypophosphit, 10 g/l Zitronensäure und 2,5 g/l SiO2 mit Teilchengrößen zwischen 30 und 60 mm lassen sich etwa 1 % SiO2 einlagern. Die Schichten zeigen einen deutlich geringeren Reibverlust bei guter Stabilität des Elektrolyten.
