Aus einem gängigen Watts-Nickelelektrolyten wurden Schichten mit Aluminium- bzw. Titanoxid abgeschieden. Die Durchmesser der Nanoteilchen lagen zwischen 10 und 20 nm. Durch die Zugabe von Titanoxid konnte eine Erhöhung der Härte von etwa 200 auf 300 bis 400 HVO0,025 erzielt werden. Umgekehrt gingen die Inneren Zugspannungen sowohl durch Einbau von Titan- als auch von Aluminiumoxid drastisch zurück. Erwartungsgemäß konnten bei Einbau der Nanopartikel ein besseres Verschleißverhalten festgestellt werden, wobei der lineare Verschleiß um etwa 50 % geringer ausfiel.
