The asynchronous rapid single-flux quantum electronics - a promising alternative for the development of high-performance digital circuits. - In: Advances in radio science, ISSN 1684-9973, Bd. 6 (2008), S. 165-173
In this paper, we investigate the application of the asynchronous logic approach for the realization of ultra high-speed digital electronics with high complexity. We evaluate the possible physical, technological, and schematical origins of restrictions limiting such an application, and propose solutions for their overcoming. Although our considerations are based on the rapid single flux quantum technique, the conclusions derived can be generalized about any type of digital information coding.

Influence of trapped flux on critical currents of Josephson junctions. - In: IEICE electronics express, ISSN 1349-2543, Bd. 5 (2008), 11, S. 431-436
This paper investigates the influence of external field on the distribution of the critical current of Josephson junctions. The external field can cause trapped flux which may reduce the critical current. Experimental results show a formation of bunches in the distribution of the critical current when the external magnetic field rises a certain limit. From a theoretical point of view this formation can only be explained by attractive pinning points in the vicinity of the junction. The Josephson junctions were fabricated with the 1 kA/cm2 Nb/Al2O3/Nb trilayer process of FlUXONICS Foundry.

Implementation of superconductive passive phase shifters in high-speed integrated RSFQ digital circuits. - In: Superconductor science and technology, ISSN 1361-6668, Bd. 21 (2008), 4, 045007, insges. 7 S.
The reduction of the critical current density in rapid single-flux quantum (RSFQ) circuits enables new application fields, like quantum computing and photonic detector readout. The low current density fabrication process creates new design challenges, such as lower stability against thermal fluctuations, violation of the lumped elements condition for microstrip inductances and increased sensitivity to the technological spread. To overcome these issues, we suggest a passive phase shifter as a promising alternative technique for superconductive phase dropping in the RSFQ electronics. - Here, we study experimentally their applicability in high-speed RSFQ digital circuits. Conclusions are drawn about the impact of the passive phase shifters on the complexity, the speed and the bit error rate of the investigated RSFQ circuits. We demonstrate the successful operation of different circuits with implemented passive phase shifters a low and high speeds.
