Electronic products continue to become smaller, lighter, faster and of course cheaper. Each new generation is expected to have more and improved functionality. We are also faced with an ever-increasing operating frequency for both digital and analog systems requiring a considerable amount of passive components. Therefore, miniaturisation of passive elements is an important way to shrink IC -volume and increase the integration density. - Sheet resistors: thick film, thin film and polymer resistors are widely used for a variety of applications. These resistors were also fundamental for the development of surface mount technology (SMT). In traditional thick film or LTCC circuits the resistors are printed on the substrate surfaces or in inner layers. - Conduction mechanism and electrical charge transport in different types of sheet resistors must be explained by developing specific models, which describe the structures of electrical conductive paths in sheet resistors. The influence of high voltage trimming on electrical conduction can be discussed with respect to models of sheet resistors. The high voltage trimming method allows integrating much geometrical smaller resistors (micro-resistors) with exact value than by traditional methods.
